From Paul Horn’s “Jupiter 8″ LP: “Transitions” by Ralph Dyck
Ralph sent along an mp3 of a Paul Horn piece he’s especially fond of, which he wrote and produced using the Roland MC-4 and Jupiter-8. It’s called “Transitions.” Ralph says it was his only “hit,” and that he received airplay royalties from it for years afterward. The “Jupiter 8” album has never been released on CD, but “Transitions” was included on Paul Horn’s “Traveler” CD.
Ralph also sent this video of “Transitions” being produced in the studio:

I enjoyed this, nice to see and hear Paul again, which brings back a few memories. The synth integrates well with the flute. Nice work!
Hi Tom, how are you?
What a blast from the past!!!!
That’s me with the beard in the assistant engineer position.
This was one of my favourite sessions during my tenure at Ocean.
I learned as much musically from Ralph and Paul as I did technically from Ralph and Laurie.
Ralph and I spent many an hour with the soldering iron in hand tweaking up the electronics for this recording.

Those numbers Ralph is programming are still used by MIDI today.
We mastered this to 1/4″ tape and to digital so it is quite possible to re-master it to CD.
This was one of my most memorable sessions to work on.
Cheers, Dave
